Why Use Multiple .ZOR Libraries in Zortam MP3 Media Studio
Learn how creating separate .zor library files helps you organize local storage, network drives, and massive audio collections efficiently.
The Power of Modular Library Management
Rather than forcing your entire music collection into one massive, slow-loading database, Zortam allows you to create and switch between multiple independent .zor library files. This modular approach provides unmatched speed, flexibility, and control over complex setups.
- Separate Local & Network Drives: Keep a lightweight
LocalMusic.zorlibrary for files stored on your laptop’s SSD, and a separateNAS_Archive.zorlibrary for massive network storage. When you are on the go without access to your home network, your local library loads instantly without hanging on missing network paths. - Lightning-Fast Search & Startup: Smaller, focused
.zorfiles open in a fraction of a second. Isolating different parts of your collection prevents database bloat and speeds up search indexing. - Organize by Quality or Format: Maintain separate libraries for different audio standards—for example, one
.zorfile dedicated exclusively to Lossless FLAC/WAV tracks and another for mobile-ready MP3s. - DJ & Event Workflows: Create dedicated event libraries (e.g.,
Party_Mix.zor,Work_Playlist.zor, or specific genre collections) so you can focus on specific sets without searching through tens of thousands of unrelated tracks. - Easy Portable Backups: Because a
.zorlibrary is a self-contained catalog file, you can easily back up, copy, or move specific library catalogs between different PCs.
How to Create and Switch Between .ZOR Libraries
- Create a New Library File:
In Zortam MP3 Media Studio, go to the top menu and select
File > New Library(or Library Management). Give your new library a descriptive name, such asNetwork_NAS.zororFLAC_Collection.zor. - Scan the Target Drive or Folder:
With your new library active, open
View > Computerand navigate to the specific local directory, external drive, or mapped network share. Zortam will scan and index those files exclusively into the active.zordatabase. - Switch Between Libraries Instantly:
To switch databases at any time, select
File > Open Libraryand pick whichever.zorfile you want to work with. The interface will instantly update to show only the indexed files for that collection.
