How to use auto tagger

How to Batch Auto Tag Your MP3 Library

Learn how to automatically identify, tag, and organize thousands of MP3 files using Zortam’s Batch Auto Tagger with acoustic fingerprint technology.

Automated Music Recognition & Metadata Processing

Zortam’s Auto Tagger processes your music collection in bulk, automatically identifying tracks even if the original filenames or ID3 tags are missing or incorrect:

  • Acoustic Fingerprinting: Analyzes the actual audio waveform to accurately identify song titles and artists—even for completely untagged files named like track01.mp3.
  • Complete ID3 Tagging: Automatically writes ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags including Track Name, Artist, Album, Year, Track Number, and Genre.
  • Cover Art & Lyrics Downloads: Automatically searches and embeds high-resolution album cover art and synchronized/unsynchronized lyrics directly into your audio files.
  • Batch Processing: Tag single files, selected tracks, or entire folders with thousands of songs in one background operation.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Select Your Files or Folders:

In Zortam MP3 Media Studio, navigate the file panel and select the MP3 files or entire folder you wish to auto tag. You can press Ctrl+A to select all files in the current folder.

  2. Launch the Auto Tagger:

Click the Auto Tag button on the main toolbar, or select Auto Tag > Auto Tag Selected Files from the top menu (or press Ctrl+T).

  3. Configure Auto Tag Options:

In the settings dialog, choose what metadata to retrieve: enable options for ID3 Tags, Cover Art, and Lyrics (synchronized/unsynchronized). You can also set whether existing tags should be overwritten or preserved if already present.

  4. Start the Automated Process:

Click Start to begin batch processing. Zortam will scan the audio fingerprints, query the online music database, and automatically save all retrieved tags, album art, and lyrics directly into the MP3 files.

  5. Review Results:

Once complete, a summary log will highlight updated tracks. Your MP3 files are now fully tagged and organized, ready for playback on any device, car stereo, or media player!
